Syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr. & L.M.Perry is a species of plant commonly known as carnation. Clove oil is obtained from the flower buds of the plant and has been used in the medicinal, aromatic and food industries for many years.
Clove oil was first extracted from the flower buds of the clove tree, which grows in East Africa, Madagascar and Indonesia. Then 16. it was brought to Europe by European merchants in the century and began to be used here as well.
For the production of clove oil, flower buds are harvested and dried primarily in the sun. Then, these buds, which contain eugenol, an oily substance, are processed by steam distillation or water vapor distillation method. This process leads to the extraction of oil and the production of pure clove oil.
The production of clove oil is especially widespread in countries such as Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Tanzania. These countries are known as the main producers of clove wood and are the leading countries in the export of clove oil worldwide.
This oil has a characteristic clove smell. It has a spicy, hot, pungent and sweet smell. At the same time, it is a smell recognized by most people and is considered a pleasant smell for many. For this reason, this oil is used in many different products, along with perfumes, cosmetics, soaps and other personal care products. However, it is not recommended to use it in a concentrated form when applied directly to the skin, because its use in high concentration can cause skin irritation.
