Calendula officinalis L. is a herbaceous plant belonging to the daisy family (Asteraceae) with yellow, orange, or yellow-orange flowers. The history of this plant goes back to the ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman civilizations.
The ancient Egyptians used Calendula in the mummification process. The Greeks used the plant for medicinal purposes and also added it as a flavoring to their dishes. In the Roman Empire, Calendula oil was used for wound healing and skin problems.
In the Middle Ages, Calendula Oil became a very popular herb in Europe. Later, in the 18th century, the plant was brought to America and gained popularity in North America as well.
The production of marigold begins with planting and growing the seeds. Pollination is done naturally by insects or manually. Then, the flowers are harvested and dried. The dried flowers can be used for various purposes, but the most common use is for medical or cosmetic purposes.
USES & BENEFITS
The fragrance of marigold is light and relaxing and reminiscent of a floral or fruity scent. Marigold has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and skin healing properties. Marigold can also be used to reduce stress and tension, improve sleep quality, and soothe the skin.
Consult a doctor before using any plant form, and some people may be allergic to marigold. Essential oils in aromatherapy practices should be pure and unadulterated.
